Professional support for RMAs
Coaching and Mentoring
Most agents don't have a senior colleague down the hall to ask “how would you handle this?” We give you one. Coaching, mentoring and private tutoring with senior immigration lawyers and practitioners, to help you work through complex cases, stay on the right side of your compliance obligations, and build systems that make your practice easier to run.
Coaching and mentoring is an extra professional service. It isn't part of our OMARA-approved CPD program and doesn't earn CPD points. You come for the help with your files and your practice.
How we can help
Bring whatever is on your mind. Most sessions cover one or more of these.
- Complex casesTalk a difficult matter through with someone who has run files like it: the strategy, the evidence that will carry it, and what the Department is likely to focus on.
- Compliance and ethicsWhat the Department of Home Affairs and OMARA expect of you in practice: your Code of Conduct obligations, conflicts of interest, client money and records, and the pitfalls that most often lead to complaints.
- Practice systemsOffice workflows, pre-lodgement checklists and file audits, and standard operating procedures that fit the way your practice actually runs, so quality doesn't depend on memory.
- One-on-one tutoringPrivate sessions built around the questions you have right now or the files on your desk, whether that's a visa program you're new to or a tribunal matter you want to get right.
- Peer review and second opinionsA senior immigration lawyer or practitioner reviews your approach, gives a frank second opinion, or helps you build the submissions and documents a matter needs.
The kind of thing agents bring us
- A partner visa where the relationship evidence feels thin
- An employer-sponsored file with a nomination question you haven't seen before
- A section 56 request or natural justice letter you aren't sure how to answer
- An Administrative Review Tribunal matter and how to frame the submissions
- A conflict of interest or fee dispute you want to handle by the book
- File notes, checklists and templates that have grown messy over the years
Ways to work with us
- Single sessionOne focused session on a specific file or question. Good when you need a second opinion before a deadline.
- Block of sessionsA set number of sessions used over a few months, for working through a new visa area or rebuilding your systems.
- Ongoing mentoringRegular sessions with the same mentor, who gets to know your practice and the way you work.
All sessions are online, at times that suit you.
Who it's for
Agents at any stage of practice: newly registered agents who want an experienced person to check their thinking, sole practitioners who work without a senior colleague, and established practices that want an outside view of their files and processes.
Common questions
Does this count towards my CPD points?
No. Coaching and mentoring is a separate professional service. It isn't part of our OMARA-approved CPD program, isn't an approved CPD activity and doesn't earn points. For your points, see our CPD workshops.
Who will I work with?
Senior immigration lawyers and experienced practitioners. We match you with someone who knows the area you need help with.
Who is responsible for my client’s matter?
You are. We advise you as a practitioner; we don't act for your client, contact them or lodge anything. Decisions on the file, and your obligations to your client under the Code of Conduct, stay with you.
Can I share client documents?
Only with your client's consent, which the Code of Conduct requires before you disclose their information. Many questions can be worked through with de-identified documents. Either way, we agree a secure way to share files first and treat everything as confidential.
How much does it cost?
Sessions are quoted at a fixed price once we know what you need, and you'll have the price in writing before we start.
I’m newly registered. Is this right for me?
Yes, and if you'd like a structured program for setting up your practice and your first files, look at New Agent Support. Coaching suits you better if you want help as questions come up.
